Are you creative? Analytical? Have a knack for solving complex problems? Team up with your fellow Terps and compete in UMD’s Data Challenge!
The University of Maryland College of Information Studies, the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism are hosting the 3rd annual UMD Data Challenge!
This weeklong event gives you an opportunity to solve a complex problem by leveraging your analytical skills and creative ideas. As a participant you will solve an information problem based on a dataset of your choice from a sponsoring organization.
You will team up with other UMD students, forming a team of up to 4 members, or you can work independently if you prefer. If desired, your team will be assigned a mentor to work with you for the full week help you review the dataset, formulate a plan and conduct the analysis.
At the end of the week, you will have the opportunity to present your findings to a team of judges in a showcase style event, with a chance to win prizes. Students across all majors and educational levels are encouraged to participate.
Keep in mind to be considered part of your team, you must attend both the Kick-off Day and the Presentation Day. If you do not attend the entire Kick-off Day with your team, you will not be allowed to present your team’s findings on Presentation Day. If you do not attend Presentation Day with your team, you will no longer be considered part of your team.

Participant registration for Data Challenge 2020 will be from November 1 – December 15, 2019.
You must be registered for the Spring 2020 semester as a student at the University of Maryland to be eligible to participate.
